David J Dorer PhD, President

 

Dave has over 40 years of experience as a statistician in the medical field. Some of this experience includes collaborating on projects in psychiatry, neurology, surgery, rehabilitation medicine, infectious disease, radiology, surgery, pediatrics, and cardiology. Prior to his retirement, Dave worked as a biostatistician at Massachusetts General Hospital and in the biotech industry. He also has extensive experience working with the US Census American Community Survey and public health databases. He has designed, developed, and analyzed surveys. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. degree from MIT.

 

John P Hebert, Treasurer

 

John brings to the board managerial and practical experience in business-to-business marketing and public relations that spanned more than 30 years.  He also has served as a Board member and Treasurer of the Boston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA),  a national non-profit professional society.  As Treasurer, his responsibilities included budgeting, maintaining, and balancing bank and investment accounts, as well as receiving and disbursing funds.  He also was responsible for verifying payments, preparing and filing reports, filing appropriate state and federal tax forms, and recommending and implementing the investment of Chapter funds.  John is also a Brookline Town Meeting Member. He holds a B.A. from Boston University.

 

Colin McArdle, MD, Clerk

 

Colin is a retired radiologist. He practiced and taught for over 40 years in the Radiology Department of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston Massachusetts as a Harvard Medical School professor. While there he served as Chief of the ultrasound division. In 2011 he made a trip to Botswana, where he assessed radiologic and ultrasonic needs and expertise in the hospitals in Gabarone and in Molepolole. The purpose of the trip was to develop plans for a medical school in Molepolole with an affiliation with Harvard Medical School. Colin has served as President of the New England Society of Ultrasound in Medicine.
 

Colin is an active volunteer both as a docent at the Arnold Arboretum and as volunteer instructor for the prisoner gardening program at a local prison.

Christine McArdle

 

Chris received her Ph.D from the University of Glasgow Scotland in 1983 but has used that little, instead enjoying a variety of  volunteer activities.


She was a founding member of the Brookline Recycling Task Force. Chris volunteers with the Brookline Medical Reserve Corps and Red Cross Disaster Services.  She participated in a research study at the Brookline Senior Center and is actively engaged in criminal justice reform.


Her greatest time commitment is as a docent at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. She has been volunteering there since 1983, her particular interest being lilacs and witch-hazels.

 

Stephanie Lustgarten, PhD

 

Stephanie has over twenty years of experience as a biostatistician in clinical trial and drug development settings. She has contributed to the design and testing of multiple successful cancer treatments. Dr. Lustgarten has worked at several smaller organizations and her career has been focused on scientific drug development.

 

She has also served as a volunteer advisor to entrepreneurs as part of the Venture Cafe Foundation in Cambridge Massachusetts. She holds a B.S. from Cornell University, a Masters degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Boston University.

 

Dr. Lustgarten is available to give presentations, either in person or as a webinar, to middle, high, and undergraduate students about careers in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
